Pulmonary Hypertension
Pulmonary Hypertension, often abbreviated as PH, is a condition that affects the blood vessels carrying blood from the heart to the lungs. In a healthy person, these blood vessels (called pulmonary arteries) have low pressure. However, with PH, these arteries become narrowed or blocked, causing the blood pressure to rise abnormally. This makes it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively and for the lungs to receive the oxygen-rich blood they need to function properly. Symptoms of PH can include shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, and swelling in the ankles. Christine faced this condition for a courageous eighteen years, enduring many hardships and treatments. We hope this explanation provides a better understanding of the challenges Christine bravely fought throughout her life.
